KPN improves mobile coverage in more than 100 locations

KPN has further improved the coverage of its mobile network. In the past 2.5 years, new antenna masts have been installed in more than 100 locations in the Netherlands, increasing capacity and coverage. KPN is thus further expanding its position as the best mobile network.

Since 2021, KPN has built 105 new antenna sites. These antennas are placed in both cities and more rural areas. In urban areas, this is mainly to further improve the capacity of the network in busy places, such as in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Eindhoven.

KPN installed 50 new antenna masts in more rural areas in the Netherlands, including Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland, Limburg, North Brabant and Zeeland. This significantly improved mobile coverage in those areas, especially indoors. A total of 366 square kilometers of good indoor coverage has been added, comparable to 56,262 football fields. KPN expects to further expand the network in dozens of locations in the coming years, so that coverage and capacity will increase further.

“Our mobile network is available to everyone in the Netherlands, including cities, outside areas, in villages, on the road and abroad,” said Wouter Stammeijer, Chief Technology & Digital Officer and Executive Board member at KPN. “National coverage has always been an important spearhead for us. In recent years, we have further improved the mobile coverage at more than a hundred locations, including in more remote areas, for example by installing additional antenna masts. This ensures that our customers can call, use the internet, play games and stream videos almost anywhere in the Netherlands without any worries.”
