Records of terabytes on network of KPN in 2021

Data traffic on the fixed KPN network grew sharply in 2021. Record after record was set last year thanks to home working, TV and streaming traffic. Upload traffic was double that of 2019, thanks to numerous video calls and the popularity of online gaming. What is also striking is that we are increasingly watching and experiencing major events, such as the European Football Championship and Formula 1, via smartphones on 4G and 5G.

In State of the Network, KPN regularly publishes information on trends and topical issues that are reflected in the volume of internet traffic on the network of the Netherlands. From working massively at home during the COVID-19 pandemic to gradually going to the office again more often. Or the influence of holidays, a brief period of frost and ice, the achievements of Dutch athletes and major streaming concerts. All are clearly reflected in data traffic and cause terabyte peaks and troughs. In this way the network of the Netherlands reflected the daily life of the Netherlands in 2021.
