KPN offers young people the very first TikTokTalk show

Young people sit round the table to discuss their own topics on their own channels, with Robbert Rodenburg as moderator

Humberto, Op1, Vandaag Inside,… the Netherlands has a wide array of talkshows. Youngsters are notable absentees. They are rarely invited, the topics discussed have little in common with their own lives, and they have less and less to do with traditional media. But there is still plenty that needs discussion and they need to hear each other’s experiences. Presenter Robbert Rodenburg gets young people round the table and discusses current issues such as cyberbullying and online shaming with them.

The online wellbeing of young people is the main focus of the shows. As well as the youngsters, experts are invited who can continue talking with the youngsters around the table and via social media after the TikTokTalk Show. Almost half of the younger generation (47%) consider it important that they “fit in” online and 61% think that the internet puts pressure on people to come across as perfect. 70% of young people say that the internet makes it easy for people to be nasty. And 4.1% of all young people say that they are often bullied online. Cyberbullying, loneliness, an unrealistic self-image, and internet addiction are just a few of the examples of the unwanted side effects of the internet on youngsters.

Young people and experts round the table
Initiator KPN wants to facilitate discuss of these issues and offers experts the chance to sit down with the youngsters and talk about them. For example, the victim support fund Fonds Slachtofferhulp will talk with the youngsters about shaming, and HelpWanted gives tips about cyberbullying. It is essential for youngsters to be able to discuss these issues more easily among themselves. The new TikTokTalk Show fits in with KPN’s aim of making the internet better and more inclusive.

KPN is starting with four episodes of the TikTokTalk Show with Robbert Rodenburg. The first episode can be seen live on Wednesday, October 4 at 8 pm.
