KPN adheres to the Code of Conduct for Safe Construction of Digital Infrastructure

Techniek Nederland and NL Connect drew up the Code of Conduct for Safe Construction of Digital Infrastructure (GVAD) to improve safety awareness around the construction of (fiber) data and telecommunications networks.

The GVAD was developed to ensure the safe installation, maintenance, replacement and operation of data and telecom networks. Besides Techniek Nederland and NL Connect, clients (e.g. telecom parties) and contractors have signed up to the GVAD as well.

Parties to the GVAD are sharing responsibility for and putting measures in place to create a safe working environment throughout the sector, via the standardization of tools, rules, regulations and safety policy, etc.

Joost Steltenpool, director KPN Network, adds: "KPN is rapidly modernizing its existing copper networks by replacing them with fiber. We have decided to adhere to this code of conduct because it’s important for this work to be carried out as safely as possible."

“Careful digging has been our top priority for years,” says Jort Wever, Director Network Management at KPN. "So, we wholeheartedly support the need for the sector as a whole to take this theme on board. The object of the GVAD initiative is to reduce risks for society and for the people who work on our infrastructure. We are happy to be doing our bit to make it a success."
