More than 15 million unsafe websites blocked this year

Last year, 132 million unsafe and risky websites were blocked for KPN customers. Thanks to smart filters, almost one and a half million viruses and malware were intercepted. This is an increase of 7 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. This is evident from the latest figures from F-Secure and KPN on cyber security in 2024.

Research by F-Secure shows that over 70 percent of Dutch consumers are concerned about online security. These concerns are only increasing because over 80 percent believe that security risks will only increase in the near future. In order to meet the increasing demand for online security, KPN will be distributing 7 million free security licenses among customers in the near future. As of today, multiple F-Secure licenses are available free of charge to 700,000 customers who do not yet have a security product. This allows them to add a security filter to multiple devices themselves. In addition, KPN will soon expand the number of free licenses for all existing customers to five devices.

“Where we reward loyal customers with services like Netflix, we want to provide all customers with a solid foundation when it comes to safe internet use: safe browsing with our malware filter and the F-Secure Virus scanner on multiple devices,” says Marieke Snoep, head of consumer market at KPN. “In addition, we do everything we can to ensure that customers use these services when they go online, because safety is in your own hands. We are happy to help our customers with this and we hope that they will also help each other to set this up properly on the different devices.”

KPN Safe

KPN's network is known for its high security requirements and is constantly monitored for attacks and weak spots. This is the only way KPN can ensure that not only customers but the whole of the Netherlands can access vital services. To be able to surf the internet safely, there is a free malware filter Safe Browsing that blocks thousands of suspicious websites every day. Customers can activate this protection themselves, just like the free virus scanners on a computer or mobile device. Customers who want to set up their own network security at home can do so with Eset Thuis. In addition, customers can also use the secure password manager 1Password or storage service Google One.

No More Leaks

KPN is doing everything it can to protect customers if their data is stolen or leaked. This is done in collaboration with the national police via the project ' No More Leaks' to prevent abuse of stolen or leaked login data on the internet. KPN is a participant in this project and based on information shared by the police we ask users to change their data if their data has been marked as stolen or leaked by the police. In this way, further identity fraud is prevented.

Digital Resilience Platform

In addition to all the security solutions, KPN also sees an important task for itself in ensuring that we feel safe online again. In order to increase the online resilience of consumers, KPN and ING, in close collaboration with the police and government, have started the knowledge platform Digital Resilience. A course designed to increase your knowledge about digital security and improve your skills. Since the platform was founded, more than 29 thousand people have registered to improve their Digital Resilience with a course on online fraud, recognizing AI and bank fraud.

Safety courses in SMEs

As much as 95% of cyber incidents are caused by human error, such as clicking on phishing links, using weak passwords and not updating software. Because 1 in 3 SME entrepreneurs are confronted with cybercrime every year, KPN has developed an online cybersecurity test and offers free cybersecurity training courses in which employees of SME companies learn to recognize threats and better protect their digital work environment.
