Coalition of Dutch Companies develops independent digital identity wallet with MyCheck
A coalition of Dutch organizations, including ABN AMRO, Achmea, ASN Bank, Deloitte, KPN, and Rabobank, is developing a reliable and widely applicable wallet for digital identification with MyCheck. With MyCheck, which complies with all European regulations, citizens and consumers can safely identify themselves online and share personal data. Users themselves determine which data they share with companies and governments. The involved organizations offer the government to implement the independent wallet together with them, without it costing the government or users any money.
New European rules
The new European rules for digital identity are called eIDAS 2.0. According to these rules, all EU countries must have developed a new system by the end of 2026 at the latest, so that people can digitally share their identity and personal data. Dutch organizations see this as an opportunity to jointly develop a safe and simple digital wallet.
The Dutch government is positive towards parties that want to test the operation of wallets (in accordance with eIDAS 2.0) in the Netherlands. After all, trials like these are necessary to gain practical knowledge in anticipation of the system's implementation.
Digital wallet
MyCheck is a secure and simple app for digital actions, documents, and data. Think of logging in, proving age, signing contracts, and sharing address details for a driver's license or passport. Users choose which data they share. They do not have to provide more information than necessary. Examples include:
- Prove age with less data: For a product or service with an age limit, a person only needs to prove that they are old enough. Name, address, and full date of birth do not need to be shared.
- Faster and safer login: Users can log in to different organizations from one trusted app. They do not need to use a separate account and password for each organization.
- Share data only once: For a contract or application, approved data can be shared directly. As a result, people need to fill out the same forms less often.
- Choose which data you share: The user sees which data an organization requests and gives or does not give permission to share it.
- Easier digital signing: The user can review and digitally sign an agreement in the same trusted app.
Dutch collaboration
A digital identity is becoming increasingly important in contact with companies and public organizations. Therefore, a solution is needed that is secure, simple, and usable for many people. No organization can create such a solution alone. Many Dutch organizations from different sectors are participating in this initiative. This shows that there is confidence in this Dutch solution. By sharing knowledge, technology, and experience, they are building a secure digital foundation for the Netherlands. MyCheck offers a Dutch alternative to similar services from large international technology companies and is therefore of strategic national importance.
ABN AMRO, Achmea, ASN Bank, Deloitte, KPN, and Rabobank are the initiators and investors, with A.S.R. and Nationale-Nederlanden indicating that they want to take advantage of the opportunities offered by MyCheck. The coalition is in talks with several parties about participation.
