Mobile coverage in all HSL traintunnels

Train passengers in all HSL tunnels between Breda and Amsterdam now have mobile coverage. In recent months, hard work has been done on mobile coverage in the seven-kilometre-long Groene Hart Tunnel, the last of five tunnels that have been equipped with mobile antennas in recent years. This means that the message 'no mobile coverage' is a thing of the past for train passengers on the HSL track.

Due to the many tunnels on the track, mobile coverage in the HSL trains was often lost. Very annoying, because it is precisely on the train that passengers like to do something for work or watch a film. That is why the Dutch mobile operators have worked hard in recent years to improve the mobile experience of train passengers on this specific route. As lead operator, KPN, together with Odido and Vodafone, has provided the installation of mobile installations in HSL tunnels.

This is a particularly complex job, requiring special assembly techniques, because trains travel very fast in the tunnels. The systems must therefore be able to withstand the pressure that occurs at high speeds. In addition, the work can only be carried out during periods of outage.ProRail and Infraspeed facilitated the construction in recent years, so that mobile coverage has now been achieved in all five tunnels. The network will be intensively monitored and optimised in the coming period.
