KPN travel app makes declaring expenses easier and greener
For many employees, claiming travel expenses is a constant chore. KPN makes this more enjoyable and also promotes greener travel behavior. KPN's new travel expense claim app not only makes filing expense claims a breeze, but also provides insight into the CO2 emissions of travel behavior. KPN commissioned a travel app specifically for this purpose, which utilizes gamification.

Here's how it works. The app on your phone almost automatically records your travel movements and links them to a CO2 dashboard. This gives employees insight into how much they contribute to reducing their CO2 footprint, both per trip and per travel period. If you cycle or take the train, you'll be rewarded with a smiley face; if you travel frequently in your gasoline car, you'll receive a slightly less friendly emoji. The dashboard in the app also shows how environmentally friendly your travel is compared to your colleagues, and you can view your travel behavior over a longer period.

Together with Reisbalans
KPN is the first in the Netherlands to combine the Reisbalans travel app with CO2 emissions and gamification. Starting September 1st, 10,000 KPN employees can install and use the app. It aligns well with other innovative HR initiatives, such as more autonomy and fewer rules when choosing your vacation days, attractive student loan repayments, a 0.40 net mileage allowance for those who cycle to work, and a contribution towards insulating and making your home more sustainable.
