KPN puts technicians in the spotlight during the first Technician Day
On April 10, we celebrate the Day of the Technician for the first time. Initiated by KPN, together with Bouwend Nederland, Techniek Nederland, and NLconnect, we thank the technicians who keep the Netherlands connected and running every day.
Appreciation for indispensable craftsmanship
The day was created following an idea from a KPN technician, who indicated that recognition from customers and employers is important. The Day of the Technician will focus on visibility and appreciation for all telecom and infrastructure technicians in the Netherlands starting this year. The first edition will take place on April 10.

Essential for today and tomorrow
Technicians ensure that the Netherlands continues to function: they maintain and improve networks, connect households and businesses, resolve outages, and build the infrastructure needed for the Netherlands. A profession that is more important than ever in times of digitalization and energy transition.
In the Netherlands, approximately 400,000 technicians work in various disciplines. At KPN, there are about 900 in-house technicians, ranging from in-home specialists to network technicians. Additionally, KPN works with technicians from partner companies. What all these technicians have in common is that it is precisely the combination of freedom, independence, variety, and direct contact with customers that gives the profession so much satisfaction.

From chef to technician: Danny's story
Danny worked for many years as a chef and made the transition to technician four and a half years ago. He was looking for a profession with more future, freedom, and variety, and found that at KPN. “In both professions, it’s all about craftsmanship, teamwork, and quickly coming to solutions. No day is the same. Being a technician offers a lot of freedom; every job is different, and you see immediate results. Working with technology and with people appealed to me right away. It is very rewarding to leave someone well connected.”
