KPN makes global appeal for better internet

KPN calls on industry peers worldwide to create a safer, more social and greener internet. The Dutch company presented a declaration of intent for telecom providers, NGOs, non-profits, research institutions and other organisations worldwide during MWC Barcelona. During the largest conference for mobile communications, the telecom provider spoke about the need for international cooperation. Various organisations have expressed their sympathy for this.

#BetterInternet

KPN is making the international plea based on the conviction that a better internet is only possible if the players who shape the digital world join forces. Organisations that sign the cooperation agreement for #BetterInternet declare that they will work together in the field of online safety, an accessible internet for everyone, protection of minors, a more sustainable digital infrastructure, responsible internet use and international cooperation. The Dutch provider presented the call during MWC Barcelona.

Logical continuation

The international initiative is a logical continuation of KPN's national mission. Under the banner of #BeterInternet, the provider has taken several steps in recent years to make the internet in its own country safer, more social and greener. For example, it launched a TikTok talk show for young people, improved the accessibility of the internet for people with support needs and made the energy supply of the Dutch network more sustainable. In addition, millions of young people were reached with Stukje van mij, a campaign against the unwanted forwarding of nude images, in collaboration with singer MEAU, Stichting Rutgers, Fonds Slachtofferhulp, Helpwanted and Soa Aids Nederland.

An international approach

Because the internet is not bound by national borders, KPN is now advocating an international approach. Marieke Snoep, Chief Consumer Officer at KPN: “We are all responsible for an internet that helps society move forward. Companies, NGOs and research institutions can each make a valuable contribution based on their specific expertise. Various other organizations have expressed their support, and we look forward to working together to create a better internet.”

Best mobile network

This is not the only news about KPN during MWC Barcelona. Benchmark organization Umlaut named KPN's mobile network as the best in the Netherlands with the highest score worldwide. KPN received a score of 989 on a scale of 1,000, the highest score the organization has ever given. In addition to user tests, the research is based on technical network measurements at numerous locations in all large and medium-sized cities, in more remote locations, on highways and provincial roads and from public transport.
