KPN gives more time for transition to new mobile technologies

KPN is giving consumers and businesses more time to make the switch from 2G to new 4G and 5G technologies. The number of 2G users has been declining rapidly in recent years, but there is still a relatively large group of active users. In order to ensure continuity and to ensure that the Netherlands can carefully stop using this outdated technology, KPN is giving the market two additional years to make the switch.

As of December 1, 2027, KPN will stop supporting 2G technology for consumers and businesses. The advice to the remaining 2G users remains to switch to new technologies as soon as possible. 4G and 5G are not only more stable and faster, but also more secure.

By freeing up network capacity from older technologies, more capacity and higher speeds become available for the latest generations of networks. For this reason, KPN has already stopped using 3G.
