Huge sculptures commissioned by KPN predecessor now in Rijksmuseum gardens

From today, visitors to the Rijksmuseum gardens will be able to enjoy two big abstract and minimalist sculptures by Dutch artist Carel Visser (1928-2015). The two identical, lead-clad metal sculptures stand on concrete bases, with one sculpture rotated 180 degrees relative to the other.

KPN donated these sculptures to the Rijksmuseum and also funded their restoration. The PTT’s Postal Cheque and Giro Service commissioned Carel Visser to create the sculptures back in the early 1960s. Like two modern temple guards, they flanked the entrance to the Postal Cheque and Giro Service building at Bezuidenhout in The Hague.
