KPN’s Jaya Baloo one of the most inspiring women in technology

Summary

KPN’s Chief Information Security Officer Jaya Baloo has been chosen as one of the Inspiring Fifty Netherlands’ 50 role models. The list is intended to increase diversity in technology by making female role models in the sector more visible. This year, more than 200 women were nominated for the list.

Encouraging diversity
In her role as Chief Information Security Officer, Jaya Baloo is responsible for protecting the KPN network against external threats. Jaya Baloo’s nomination is also recognition for KPN, because the company encourages diversity, both within its own organization and in the tech sector. KPN is honored that Jaya Baloo can now be an example for other women with the ambition to work in technology.

Low percentage, high priority
Women with a top position in the tech world can still not be taken for granted. According to InspiringFifty, the percentage of women in the ICT sector in our country is very low, at just 16 per cent. The percentage of women in STEM-studies (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) is at 18.7 per cent also lower than in other European countries. It is therefore important to stimulate and increase diversity in the industry. InspiringFifty was founded in 2013 by two women who decided to give more visibility and recognition to women in technology under the motto ‘You can’t be, what you can’t see’.
