A first for KlasseContact during the football match between the Netherlands and France

Summary

This evening, KlasseContact, the longest-running initiative of KPN's Mooiste Contact Fonds, took its concept outside the classroom for the first time during the UEFA Nations League match between the Netherlands and France.

Two very sick children suffering from a long-term illness were able to watch the football match from the grandstands in De Kuip, together with their classmates, via the KPN Klasgenoot, an ICT set.

After a festive welcome by Dirk Kuyt, the two classes from Rotterdam were led to the grandstand where the ICT set had already been installed. Manuella Hoogendoorn from Rotterdam (12), a pupil of the Juliana van Stolbergschool, and Gijs Goosen from Veghel (19), a student at the Scheepvaart en Transport College, watched the match from their homes via their KPN Klasgenoot.

This initiative is the crowning achievement in the tenth anniversary year of KPN's Mooiste Contact Fonds, which combats loneliness in collaboration with various social partners. Dirk Kuyt, the well-known footballer behind the Dirk Kuyt Foundation, is one of those partners. Since the fund started in 2008, 3,300 children have attended their classes and experienced special moments in the classroom via KlasseContact. Research shows that KlasseContact has lowered the fear that sick children have of going back to school by 81%.
