KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile are building a new mobile indoor network in Rotterdam Ahoy

Summary

The providers KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile will install a new and future-proof mobile indoor network in Rotterdam Ahoy for an optimal mobile user experience for visitors to the events venue. The 15-year agreement was signed on Friday, 12 July during the North Sea Jazz Festival in Ahoy and preparations for the construction of the extensive antenna network has now started. The providers expect the new network to be ready by the end of this year.

Special sites such as Ahoy require tailor-made solutions to provide mobile users with an excellent mobile calling and Internet experience. The ‘normal’ mobile signal from outside cannot penetrate inside sufficiently and does not have the capacity to serve all visitors. The new network will ensure optimal reach in the Ahoy events venue, which, in addition to the Ahoy Arena, has six exhibition and events halls and a conference and meeting center. It will be achieved with the help of around 120 antennas that will transmit the mobile signal of all the operators to the 1.5 million annual visitors to Ahoy. To control all those antennas, more than 11 kilometers of cable will be laid inside the venue.

“We are really happy with the new mobile network that KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile are going to achieve together”, says Jolanda Jansen, CEO Rotterdam Ahoy. “We regard Ahoy as the stage for positive and unique experiences. Good mobile coverage is increasingly important for our events, so that visitors can share their experience directly with their friends and relatives. Just think of the North Sea Jazz Festival, which attracts 27,000 visitors at the same time.”
